What is the surface area of the square pyramid? A. 28 cm2 B. 52 cm2 C. 64 cm2 D. 96 cm2

OpenStudy (hakunamatata34):

what pramid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and @jabez177 that thing didnt work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i tried that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at the image

jabez177 (jabez177):

Right!!! Multiply those 2 and divide it by 2.

jabez177 (jabez177):

I think. I haven't done these since 5th grade.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

the base is square and the length of one side is known. What's the area of the base? There are four sides, each of which is an equilateral triangle. The base is known, as is the height. What is the are of one triangle? What is the area of four such triangles?

jabez177 (jabez177):

^ Now I remember!!

OpenStudy (mrnood):

area of a square is l^2 area of triangle is lh/2 you have 1 square and 4 triangles - add up the 5 areas to get the overall answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 40?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or just tell me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@They_Call_Me_Narii

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Sorcerer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@LanHikari22 @vheah anyone

OpenStudy (anonymous):

fack it

jabez177 (jabez177):

6 x 4 is?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

magax, sorry for your frustration, but "fack it" is unacceptable here on Open Study. What have you done so far towards solving this problem? I pretty much laid out for you the steps you must take to answer this question.

jabez177 (jabez177):

Since there are 4 equilateral triangles. They all are 6 cm tall. So we multiply that by 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@LolitaDayz

jabez177 (jabez177):

Dude, come on!! I'll help you with the question. Just work with me! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 24

jabez177 (jabez177):

Good now x 4 right, @Mathmale?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Would someone please come up with the formula for the area of a triangle, substitute the height 6 and the base 4, and find the area? Would someone please find the area of the base? Please add together: 4(area of triangle) + area of base

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just for fun ima start a stopwatch aND SEE HOW LONG IT TAES TO ANSWER THIS oops caps

OpenStudy (mathmale):

The question here, megax, is how long it takes YOU to come to an understanding of this problem sufficient to enable YOU to find the correct answer.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Can YOU write the formula for the AREA of a triangle of base b and height h? Can YOU write the formula for the area of a square of side s?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If you don't know these formulas, megas, do internet searchs for 1) area of a square 2) area of a triangle You'll be flooded with information.
