OpenStudy (richgall____):

1. Which of the sets of ordered pairs represents a function? A = {(1, –2), (3, –5), (5, 2), (7, 5)} B = {(4, 2), (4, –2), (9, 3), (9, –3)}

OpenStudy (openstudier):

A function is represented by a set of values where every x-value corresponds to EXACTLY one y-value.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Right. so, if you see that a single x value has 2 or more y values connected with it, then the set of ordered pairs does not represent a function.

OpenStudy (richgall____):

okay

OpenStudy (richgall____):

@mathmale i plotted them on the graph and they aren't in a straight so doesn;t that mean it's not a function?

OpenStudy (richgall____):

@pooja195

OpenStudy (anonymous):

check to see which one has no repeats in the first (the \(x\) )coordinate that is all if has not repeated x values, then it is a function if it has repeated x values, it is not

OpenStudy (richgall____):

yea in A only X shows a pattern not the y values though @satellite73

OpenStudy (richgall____):

And in B, the same numbers repeat but they have different values
