A game at a county fair has a spinning drum holding 15 colored plastic balls: some white, some green, and some red. Every time the drum spins, one ball drops out, its color is recorded, and then the ball is placed back in the drum. The table shows the results after 15, 150, and 1500 spins. What is the best estimate of the number of white balls in the drum? Outcome Number of trials 15 150 1500 white 5 61 680 green 9 74 713 red 1 15 107 A. 1 B. 4 C. 6 D. 7

6 is not the best answer looking at the results for 1500 trials (this is a very large sample compared to the population) you have 680/1500 white 713/1500 green 107/1500 red there are only 15 balls - so you must find the most likely make up of 15 balls based on that sample. note - the sample is 100 times the population - so if you divide the results by 100 that would be a good representative of the population e.g. 107/1500 ~ 1.07/15 gives best estimate of 1 red ball
Yes the best estimate would be the one based on the larggest number of trials so in the case of the white balls it is 680 * 15 ---- 1500
