Do serotonin and dopamine work antagonistically?

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Dopamine and Serotonin are what are known as neurotransmitters they are very powerful. The levels of these neurotransmitters are effected by just about everything you do. They can be affected by your mood as well. These natural chemicals allow your body to move more fluently and smooth, keep your mind on track and focused, and much more. These levels also control depression or mood disorders that could develop without them. For instance low dopamine levels can be associated with Parkinson's Disease. While on the other hand to much dopamine can cause unwanted movement such as tremors or jerking. Unlike dopamine, the role of serotonin in movement is not as clear. Serotonin is needed for normal movement and may manage the effects of other neurotransmitters. Cocaine and amphetamines, for example, increase dopamine and may make these drugs more addictive. In contrast, serotonin is important for calmness and emotional well-being. Both of these chemicals within the brain are extremely important and must work together. They counteract each other meaning that they create a balance.

So yes? What I more meant was in a synapse does one of them have a inhibitory effect while the other has a excitatory?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also I was under the impression it was the other way round? That dopamine made you calm and serotonin made you feel happy and excited, I figured that was why dopamine was important in falling asleep?

Also if you know much about this I have many follow up questions :P
