What is the function of an inhibitor in an enzyme-substrate reaction? Activating the substrate Deactivating the product Activating an enzyme Deactivating an enzyme

OpenStudy (witty_roger):

D) deactivating an enzyme

OpenStudy (witty_roger):

medal plz

OpenStudy (rushwr):

The binding of an inhibitor can stop a substrate from entering the active site of the enzyme or hinder the enzyme from catalyzing a reaction. So it's more like deactivating an enzyme ! I hope u understand this !

OpenStudy (hectoroftroy):

Or the inhibitor can bind somewhere on the enzyme other than its active site - and induce a change in the enzyme's conformation that distorts the active site and makes it unable to bind the substrate. Witty - direct answers aren't witty, and Rushwr - allosteric interactions rock.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

lol and thanks for noting down the parts I missed. I just gave a brief note. Thank you @hectoroftroy
