I was suspended for giving out direct answers, when I gave an explanation for the answer. Why??? I need an explanation from whoever suspended me, or at least a Moderator.
"Give Help, Not Answers-I will encourage and guide those needing help, and not just give them an answer" Answers +explanations are not allowed. You MUST guide the user to the answer.
A direct answer is considered to be any answer from which the asker can pluck out the answer without having to understand anything.
Wait what? It said "You were suspended for giving out direct answers blah blah blah" I sent the person a message and then gave the answer again.
"gave them the answer again"
*after explaining it...
^
You still gave the answer though. Why would they care about the explanation?
I sent them the explanation first... (in the message)
but the purpose of this site is to get people to LEARN you have deprived the user the joy of getting to the answer themselves
How would the mod know you sent it through pm? Why didn't you just reply on the post?
I already said ON the post that my reply wasn't working properly
so you could have waiting for another helper to provide proper help? :)
You still gave the letter answers though... "ACD " or something like that.
But that wasn't a direct answer.
Do you know what direct answers are? :)
Yes.
What are direct answers to you?
When you just give the answer without explaining it.
Why? Isn't that what they are?
Direct answers are answers that have no asker interaction. When you explained your answer that you gave, the asker really has no clue what you were talking about
and @pooja195 You messaged me! And then I gave an explanation AGAIN on the post
Even thou this would have been stated already by the above! You want to explain everything! Guide the user to the answer. Direct answers are direct answers, Even with explanations on them.
http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/53bd1742e4b0f3a650f8d603 "It means users should not post full solutions to questions as this just encourages people to cheat. Guide them to a solution and let them participate in it. It's better to guide the user to an answer rather than doing all the work yourself. Most users will only scroll to the bottom of your explanation and copy the answer. That's not what this website is intended for. Users should get the answer themselves with your guidance."
I messaged you "Please try to avoid giving such direct answers, it is against OpenStudy's code of conduct http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct This site has a policy for "Give Help, Not Answers" violations of such policies could potentially result in an account suspension or ban. So, please keep that in mind from now on :)" That would've meant for you to delete your answer that you posted and help GUIDE the user
So I can't give out an answer and explain why it's that?
"Most users will only scroll to the bottom of your explanation and copy the answer. That's not what this website is intended for."
because that is still a direct answer. The user won't care about your explanation. But instead just take what you said.
Because the asker learns nothing. When they take a test they won't understand the concept because the answer was simply haneded to them.
u could have used \(\rm\huge~Hints\)
Er, I kind of asked if I was allowed to do that or not. So is that a yes or no?
No.
@MysticalFlames How about being a guide to the person who asked the question. Help them do the question ,giving inputs that makes them get to the answer. In the end, when they finally reach the answer with those inputs wouldn't it be called learning? After all this is OpenStudy not OpenAnswers.
@AravindG Well I did explain so maybe you could say OpenExplainAnswers
it's a direct violation of OS's rules. So no. Direct answers are not allowed.
@MysticalFlames Direct answers are still direct answers in any form. Explained or not. Please guide the user and not just say "Answer is A, here is why." it's not very informative either.
@Zeronknight Yeah we've established that.
Okay then, Merry Christmas dudes
Peace
Tell me who found the solution? How much did the person who asked involve? You think that person will be able to do such questions without any help in future?
Merry Christmas and a Happy new year owo.
@AravindG Yeah actually, I was asked for more help later. Bye
i agree that it is difficult sometimes to explain when it comes to vast topics i would like to share an example : Suppose it is from genetics n the question is where is the process taking place..and the user says that they dont know about it then what we can do is : 1. Explain in short highlighting the main points 2. Post an external link which will give a brief explanation 3. Tag other users. They may help out
@MysticalFlames You ask me what 2+2 is i tell you it's 4 did you learn how to solve what 2+2 is? No now i can say 2+2 is 4 if you take your fingers and count 2 and 2 more you get for. Yes I explained it but now on a test you won't remeber that will you? If i draw things out for you like this: |dw:1450929062298:dw| And i tell you to count it and tell me what you think the answer is, it would make a difference because you are going through the learning process :) and in the future it will come into use during tests and quizzes or infact any type of exam
