I need help making a hypothesis for the question "Does amylase break down starch?"

OpenStudy (helpmeee123):

this is an enzyme. That's all i know. And i think it breaks down starch

OpenStudy (egaddindustries):

Ooh!! This is a good question! To develop a hypothesis is rather simple. Keep in mind that a hypothesis doesn't have to be correct, so long as your rationale is relevant enough to the given question. For instance, given the question "Do trees absorb Carbon Dioxide?", one could generate the valid hypothesis that "No, trees don't absorb, because the amount of CO2 in the air isn't affected by the amount of trees in a given area." Even though that hypothesis is obviously incorrect, that's what an experiment is for: to prove it right or wrong. Based on what I just said, what do you think a reasonable hypothesis for your question would be?
