Can somebody help me with this SAT practice test question?
Hold on ...
This one. How does it makes sense? I am so confused with why that one is the answer :/
They give me this explaination. I am so confused. Explanation Only “desolate...populated” presents the contrast required by the sentence. The words “corrected the notion” signal that the first word in the correct answer must contrast with the second word because that second word corrects the mistaken notion.
SAT is getting harder and harder, isn't it? :\ I know you asked this yesterday, but if you still want an explanation, I'll try to give one. I just read over the explanation they gave you, and tried to simplify it here. :) Only the two words, desolate and populated, make sense in this question, because it's the only answer that has two words that mean different things. When you read the first word, you should automatically come to the conclusion that the second word has to mean something of the complete opposite for it to be correct. And in the case with answer C., it's true. While desolate means "empty" or "abandoned," populated means "full" and for people to be present in a specific area. Hopefully this helps a little bit. The explanation they gave you is really weird... What were they asking in specific? Like: "See what word fits in the sentence the best." or "Find the words which have opposing meanings."?
