OpenStudy (spinex12):

Find the sales tax amount. purchase price = $32; tax rate = 8% $0.80 $2.56 $4.00 $34.56

OpenStudy (dannyo19):

8 percent is 8/100 so all you have to do is multiply 32 by 8/100

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

@Spinex12 it"s ok ?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

To find out the sales tax, we need to multiply the tax rate (decimal form) with the purchase price. since tax rate is in percent, to convert to decimal we need to divide 8 this by 100, as percent is out of 100. therefore \(8 \div 100 = 0.08\) now we can multiply the purchase price with \(0.08\) (tax rate in decimal form) as \($32 \times 0.08 = x\) what is \(\color\red{x}\) going to be?

OpenStudy (spinex12):

ok thank you

OpenStudy (spinex12):

the answer is 2.56

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

yes!

OpenStudy (spinex12):

I will give metal

OpenStudy (spinex12):

I have one more if that is ok

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

i'll try

OpenStudy (spinex12):

Find the total cost. purchase price = $434.95; tax rate = 4.5% $454.52 $439.45 $435.40 $19.75

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

this is almost the same thing, but with an addition of another step. 1) find the sales tax (look for the process we have done previously) 2) add the sales tax to the purchase price
