okay for this problem i keep getting 14! but that isn't an option can someone help me?? https://gyazo.com/74d5f7923890930a649f7575133fbafb (the problem)

hartnn (hartnn):

can you show us how did you get 14? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hartnn KL=NM/2 (4X+1)/2 27/2 0.5 13.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHH NVM but is that correct?? @hartnn

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13.5 - 0.5? idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Needhelpstudying hmmm idk im kind of stuck on this problem

hartnn (hartnn):

KL = NM/2 ? which property did you use?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hartnn the top KL and the bottom NM divided by two. thats what my book says to do but i get 13.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 13? or not?!?!?

hartnn (hartnn):

so can you solve this for x: \((4x+1) + 27 = 5x+2\) and when you get 'x', you can just calculate 4x+1 to get KL. i am not sure of the name of the property that is used...

hartnn (hartnn):

oops, i meant \((4x+1) +27 = 2(5x+2)\)

hartnn (hartnn):

the mid-segment is the average of the outer two.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you @hartnn

hartnn (hartnn):

what did you get as x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just got 22 @hartnn is that correct?

hartnn (hartnn):

Let me show you my work, then you can see what you missed: (4x+1)+27=2(5x+2) 4x +28 = 10x + 4 10x - 4x = 28 -4 6x = 24 x = 4 KL = 4x+1 = 4(4) + 1 = 16 +1 =17 ask if any doubts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay comparing it to my work i just didnt remember that x=1

hartnn (hartnn):

we "calculated" x as 4.
