if f(x)=-10x-6, then f^-1(x)=what?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

algerbra 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1) Replace f(x) with y.....it just makes the process easier 2) The, replace EVERY x with a y and EVERY y with an x. Becomes: x =-10y-6 3) Solve for y

OpenStudy (decarr432):

That makes no sense to me lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you looking for \[f ^{-1} (x)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, you are. I miss read it hold on. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, you are looking for the INVERSE of the function, meaning, you are looking for the OPPOSITE. That is why you are replacing the x with y's and the y's with x's

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Yeah I got that but how would I do it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1) f(x)=-10x-6 becomes y=-10x-6 2) x = -10y -6 3) now solve for y :)

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Okay thank you
