because diversity allows species to adjust overtime to their environment. If a species can't evolve, it cannot adapt. Thus, it cannot survive.

think of zebras for example. Scientists think that zebras stretched their neck so much while trying to reach higher up leaves on trees, that when they had little baby zebras, they had a little bit of a longer neck. While all of the shorter zebras where fighting to get leaves, the long necked zebra was happily munching on leaves. So, the taller zebra mated, and over millions of years, the Giraffe was born. XD
