Help please, asking for help not answers.

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

How many threes would be listed in the stem area of a stem-and-leaf plot with the following data? [12, 12, 22, 23, 33, 34, 36, 37, 48, 47] 2 3 4 1

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

\(\color{#000000 }{ \displaystyle 2|3,~5,~8 }\) woud be the way to record numbers: 23, 25, 28. 2 is the "tree" 3, 5 and 8 are the "leafs" (this is an example)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Record your numbers in the same form as I recorded 23, 25, and 28. The number behind the \(|\) is the "tree", and so, after recording the numbers this way you wil be able to determine the number of "trees"

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

Would the answer be 2?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Fill out the graph & count it....

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

For example, if you have a 11, the first number is there, then record the one.... if it's 23, record the 3 next to the 2. Get it?

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

Like this ? 1 | 2,2 2 | 2,3 3 | 3, 4, 6, 7 4 | 8, 7

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Awesome!!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Sorry for late reply.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

How many trees do you have?

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

That's okay! So the answer would be 2?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I explained what a "tree" is

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

3?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Again, \(\color{#000000 }{ \displaystyle 2|3,~5,~8 }\) woud be the way to record numbers: 23, 25, 28. 2 is the "tree" 3, 5 and 8 are the "leafs" (this is an example)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

1 | 2,2 2 | 2,3 3 | 3, 4, 6, 7 4 | 8, 7

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

So you only count the trees?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

how many times do you have a number on the left of the \(|\) ? Yes, you just count them:)

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

So, just 1?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

|dw:1451958314465:dw|

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So how many trees are there? :D

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

4

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

But I'm confused because it's asking "How many 3's are being listed" ...

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

threes or trees? there are three threes, and four trees.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

xd

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

3's and the next question is how many 2's. lol

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

how many 2's and 3's overall in the step leaf plot, or just in leafs?

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

How many threes would be listed in the stem area of a stem-and-leaf plot with the following data? [12, 12, 22, 23, 33, 34, 36, 37, 48, 47]

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

apparently in the all plot, so threes, there are 3. two's, count them,

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I see 5 twos

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

It's just the stem area. Which part is the stem area? the trees?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

The stem is the tree

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

so, just the stems

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

and the leafs are the other numbers?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes, the leafs are numbers on the right

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

okay, thank you I figured it out!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

:) sorry for confusing you...

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yw, tho'

OpenStudy (xximhisgirlxx):

thats ok! :)
