OpenStudy (mathmale):

@Ella4184 : please decide for yourself whether or not you're going to draw the original function, as I've several times asked you to do.

OpenStudy (ella4184):

sorry, i don't see it.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

From where did you get the problem we're currently working on?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If it's on your computer screen, can you copy (do a screen shot of) the problem, save that to your computer and then upload it to OpenStudy?

OpenStudy (ella4184):

OpenStudy (ella4184):

there it is

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Thank you. Ella, your original post was "I need 5 fraction to equal exactly 10 using only 1/3 and/or 1/4." This is VERY different from the problem in the screen shot you've shared with me. That's why this discussion has been so confusing for you.

OpenStudy (ella4184):

ok

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Does the problem say what the ingredients are, such as sugar, flour, vanilla, etc.?

OpenStudy (ella4184):

have to make up the ingredients. You have to write a recipe for trail mix.

OpenStudy (ella4184):

*I have to-

OpenStudy (mathmale):

OK, then. You want 10 cups of the stuff. If you recognize that 3(1/3 cup) = 1 cup, then you could fill the 1/3 cup measure 3 times for each cup of that ingredient.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Or you could fill the 1/4 cup measure 4 times for each cup of that ingredient. At least, that's how I interpret the question.

OpenStudy (ella4184):

Ok thanks!

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Can't think of much else to say about this. Supposing you don't have a 1 cup measure and don't have a 1/2 cup measure. Then you have to make do with the two measures you do have, which are the 1/4 cu and the 1/3 cup measures. Any questions?

OpenStudy (ella4184):

nope. all good

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Good for you. Take care. Over and out!
