OpenStudy (solomonzelman):
You can play with the second equiation.
If you add e to both sides of the second equation, then you will get
\(\color{#000000 }{ \displaystyle d-e\color{red}{+e}=4 \color{red}{+e} }\)
\(\color{#000000 }{ \displaystyle d=4+e }\)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):
You can tell based on this (on d=4+e), that d and (4+e) are the same thing.
So, you can substitude "4+e" into the firt equation, instead of d.
