OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do these equations have solutions? 2d−e=7 d+e=5

OpenStudy (roadjester):

You have two equations and two unknowns, so yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are they unknown? or Is there a infinite amount of solutions??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need an explanation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to solve a system of equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I kinda know but I'm still a bit confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And yes there is options

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add them all together. One venerable will cancel out, then solve for the other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

These are the options + the one I chose

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do I add these together or??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I'm adding the numbers and letters together...right??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add straight down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It doesn't make any sense though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how much is 2d+1d?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what happened to the d's?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm greatly confused as of right now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how much is 2d+1d? add the d's we are talking d's not just numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many d's are there? you can not omit the letter d we are adding d's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm confused because, I don't see how adding a d is going to explain if the solution is either infinite,no solution,or that the fact that there is a solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Trust me. Add the d's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you add the d's I will help you. If you are not interested, then I will leave. Let me know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mthompson440 I still don't get the point of adding the d's. It makes no sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you need to solve the system of equations. To do this the first step is adding the d's.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here is what I got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2*4-1=7\] \[4+1=5\] Unless you want me to add 4 and 4 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If that is what you are trying to say

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your answer is correct. How did you get it? Were you able to solve for d and e or was this just substitution?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was asking to use linear combination method to see if there was a solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1452152971372:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got confused at adding the d's mainly because, I was taught a easier route to get a solution. And also this is the full question.
