OpenStudy (anonymous):

which of the segments below is a secant?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

A secant, is a line that intersects the circumference in two points. For example OA is a radius (the distance that defines the circle) so we can conclude it does not cut the circumference in two points.

OpenStudy (hossamhoussien):

I think it will be (da)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be BC?

OpenStudy (priyar):

yes you are correct @exmac..good job!

OpenStudy (hossamhoussien):

@priyar @exmac I don't think BC is correct answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is BC not correct?

OpenStudy (hossamhoussien):

because as @Owlcoffee told you "The secant is segment intersect the circle's circumference in two points " BUT neither point B or C intersect the circumference I hope you get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

DA is not an answer option

OpenStudy (priyar):

@HossamHoussien i think u understood the def. wrongly... only the line has to intersect the circle the points need not lie on the circle...here B and C are just points that are marked to represent the line...Basically "SECANT IS A LINE THAT PASSES THROUGH THE CIRCLE INTERSECTING IT AT 2 POINTS" so BC is the correct answer..

OpenStudy (priyar):

Infact if the points where on the circle..it would be a Chord..here AD is a chord..

OpenStudy (hossamhoussien):

@priyar you're correct sorry for misunderstanding
