Atsie (atsie):

Someone save my life, like now! I'm confounded on this question. Mrs. Patton is planning to place a fence around her vegetable garden. The fencing costs $1.75 per yard. She buys f yards of fencing and pays $3.50 in tax. If the total cost is $73.50, how many yards of fencing does she buy? A.1.75f + 3.50f = 73.50 B. 1.75 + 3.50f = 73.50 C. 1.75f + 3.50 = 73.50 D. 1.75 + 3.50 + 73.50 = f I pick B, but is that even right? If its wrong, can someone explain? Thank you!! :)

C. is the correct answer

Atsie (atsie):

Why would it be C?

OpenStudy (retireed):

Actually I would say none of the equations are correct... The only one that solves for f is incorrect. C is the proper equation since 1.75*f +3.50 = 73.5 but to solve for how many yards of fencing she buys... ($/yard)(number of yards) + ($ tax) = total $ (number yards) = (total $ - tax $) / ($/yard) ----> units for f is in yards

Atsie (atsie):

I think I'm vaguely understanding. Hmm, wonder why I thought it was B. I seem to go in order of the way the sentence is written, But thanks for explaining @retirEEd I appreciate it
