How does the poem "The White Man's Burden", justify imperialism to the industrialized world and the unindustrialized world?

I don't exactly remember the poem, but the best way I could summarize it would be "it's our duty to conquer you (the native people) in order to gain resources for us (the invaders) so we can manage your land and resources much better for you, it's all for your own good, we promise!".

OpenStudy (surana):

I think that's also their justification, give or take.

OpenStudy (neonumbrella5115):

After analyzing this poem, I can confirm that the information above is true. It's saying the it is the white mans "job" to take care of the conquered nations.

OpenStudy (surana):

Thanks for the confirmation.
