DNA insertion mutations may be caused by the invasion of?

OpenStudy (neonumbrella5115):

Are there any choices? :)

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

Do you know what DNA insertion is? And are there choices or is this a fill in the blank/open question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@deniawynn I think there is a serious problem with the question. The term "invasion" in this context seems to be nearly entirely misused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

DNA insertion mutations may be caused by the invasion of VIRUSES. :) viruses = invade us

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@student2015 I guess you could think of it that way. I think most of the time we do not think of viral or bacterial DNA insertions into the host genome as "mutations".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mrdoldum True. Though in fact, retroviruses ( HPV/HIV) can cause mutations by inserting genes to the genome of an infected cell, destroying/altering its genes, which result in cancer/ AIDS, receptively.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@student2015 All viruses insert genetic material, I am just pointing out this is seldom termed a "mutation". Certainly some virus can cause the self correcting mechanisms to break down allowing what we do thing of as mutations to occur more frequently.
