jabez177 (jabez177):

The diagram shows four forces acting on an object. The length of the lines shows the magnitude of the forces. The object will accelerate because the forces are unbalanced. Which identifies the direction in which the object will accelerate? A. upward and to the right B. upward and to the left C. downward and to the left D. downward and to the right

jabez177 (jabez177):

I think it's D because that is where the force is weakest meaning that is where it is going to get pushed.

jabez177 (jabez177):

@imqwerty

imqwerty (imqwerty):

|dw:1453158872664:dw| The forces acting in vertical direction are the ones which will make the object move vertically and the forces acting in horizontal direction are the ones which will make the object move horizontally remember that the net force of to opposite acting force will be in direction of bigger force thus net acceleration will also be in direction of bigger force

imqwerty (imqwerty):

now 1st you compare the 2 vertical forces and find the bigger one and then you tell the direction acceleration and then you do the same for horizontal forces

imqwerty (imqwerty):

*two opposite acting

jabez177 (jabez177):

Okay, and then?

imqwerty (imqwerty):

okay so tell this-> in which direction does the net vertical force act

jabez177 (jabez177):

Upward and Downward.

imqwerty (imqwerty):

net vertical force means the resultant of the 2 vertical forces which are acting on the block for example we have 2 boys A and B and they both are pushing a box but A is pushing with greater force as compared to B so net force will be in direction of A's force and the box will move in the direction in which A is applying force

jabez177 (jabez177):

Yeap

jabez177 (jabez177):

So it's A?

imqwerty (imqwerty):

no its not A

jabez177 (jabez177):

Definitely not C.

jabez177 (jabez177):

Neither B.

imqwerty (imqwerty):

why?

jabez177 (jabez177):

WAITTTT!!! IT SAYS "ACCELERATE!!!!!"

jabez177 (jabez177):

It is C!!!!

imqwerty (imqwerty):

why? :)

jabez177 (jabez177):

Because it says, "Accelerate" so that means it already has a force applied to it so now it's just rolling so C sounds like the answer.

imqwerty (imqwerty):

no its not C see this example- |dw:1453160598697:dw| and the object will accelerate in the direction of resultant force
