a paraphrase happens when

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

When you need to avoid plagiarism, or just to sum something up in simple sentences in order to save up time. - EXAMPLES: - 1) Like when you need to do a book report, you need to paraphrase what was it about overall, from what you understand. You can't write down over 100 pages. It would be classified as plagiarism and waste time. 2) Or when you are jotting down important notes in class. The teacher writes a paragraph onto a board and you don't have much time to write all of it down. What do you do? Paraphrase it. Sum it up to the key point. Keep it simple and clean.

Is a claim, conclusion, and argument one of the same? The wording in my text book is very confusing.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Nope. Do you know what a conclusion is? It is to conclude, or _ _ _ _ _, something! (Like, essays, paragraphs etc) figure out the blank @Irose. Claim is when someone makes a statement claiming an idea or something of that sort. Arguing, is well, fighting for a idea you think is right, this case, a verbal dispute among at least two individuals. They may try to influence you to presume that their speech and ideas are right, better than the other person's. You connect the dots, do they seem similar or the same? Or just different terms.
