In this political cartoon from 1948, Stalin and Truman are engaged in a game of chess. Stalin’s pieces represent the Berlin Blockade and the Eastern Block. Truman’s pieces represent the Berlin Airlift and the Atlantic Alliance. What does this cartoon tell us about the relationship between the USSR and the United States at this time?

well Chess is all based on strategy and thinking..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right so what do we know about the two people

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tensions were high between the two leaders. Chess is a game of strategy and thinking, and so both had to strategically plan the next steps they were going to take. Truman realized that it was becoming difficult to work with Stalin (because they all shared specific parts of Germany). The conflict between the Allies, including Truman, and Stalin was going back and forth, like a chess game. And each side took turns out smarting the others, and showing that they wouldnt give up

does that help? I got it from http://www.coldwar.org/articles/40s/berlin_blockade.asp

yes
