OpenStudy (josedavid):

What are the responsibilities of the region of the brain highlighted below? Highlighter portion is at the bottom of the brain, forming a connection between the center of the brain and the spinal cord. Regulating important involuntary bodily functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, and swallowing. Regulating homeostasis, hunger and eating, thirst and drinking, and many other functions of basic survival. Controlling voluntary body movements, processing information from sense organs, thoughts, and learning abilities. Coordinating movement and balance by using information from sensory nerves, including hand-eye coordination.

OpenStudy (josedavid):

u sure

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

50%

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

Hold on

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

Well that looks like the "thalamus." That's the part of our brain that helps control our motor skills. Motor skills are voluntary movements. The way that we move and position our bodies. Our basic senses are also processed through the thalamus. I'm talking about taste, touch, sight, and hearing. (Our sense of smell is an exception.)

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

I don't think that's the pons. Look at this picture: http://people.eku.edu/ritchisong/301images/Brain_stem.jpg The green highlighted part looks a little too high up to be the pons.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Regulating homeostasis, hunger and eating, thirst and drinking, and many other functions of basic survival-- would be the solution for the first one.. We are not supposed to give direct answers but I assume you know nothing about this so thats why I did.

OpenStudy (josedavid):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):
