during the sale the pet store had a special price for a different brand of cat food one can of that brand cost $1.70 or a package of 3 cans cost $4.90 how many cans can be purchased for $37.70?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

help plz i'm really bad at math

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... you go to the pet store that day with $37.70 now, if you buy a set of 3, you get them for 4.90, NOT 1.70 * 3 so you get a deal for every 3-packs you get you have only 37.70 how many 3-packs can you get for that?

@jdoe0001

OpenStudy (retireed):

We need an equation...

OpenStudy (retireed):

a three can pack P cost $4.90 a single can S cost $1.70 I can only come up the one equation for the two unknowns... 4.9 P + 1.7 S = 37.7 Wait a second here is another equation 3P + S = X X is the total number of cans Now I have two equations with three unknowns. Still not good.... How are we going to solve this?

OpenStudy (retireed):

so you are offline now, when or if you come back let me know and I will show you how to solve the problem
