Find three consecutive odd integers such that four times the middle integer is two less than the sum of the first and third.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

if (x\) is the first of the three numbers, what are the second and third numbers?

OpenStudy (plasmataco):

yeah...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

no, how would you express the second and third consecutive odd integers, if \(x\) represents the first one?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

actually, scratch that. we will let \(x\) represent the middle number. if the middle number is \(x\), the first and third numbers are what?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

middle number is \(x\). first number is \(x-2\), third number is \(x+2\) middle number *4 is 2 less than sum of first and third: \[x*4=(x-2)+(x+2)-2\]solve for \(x\) and don't forget \(x\) is middle number.
