How is government power limited by "separation of powers"?

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

alright let me explain this quickly

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

so the separation of powers is basically a thing where each branch of government has a way to check another branch of government, this means that no government will have power over the others

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

this is so no branch of government will take over the other branches of government

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

The system of checks and balances is used to keep the government from getting too powerful in one branch. For example, the Executive Branch can veto bills from the Legislative Branch, but the Legislative Branch can override the veto.

http://www.congressforkids.net/Constitution_checksandbalances.htm may better explain than the earlier link

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So than no branch will lose power or have limited power?

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

yeah

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

no branch will be dominant over another
