calculus question 2 @solomonzelman

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

I have no idea what it's asking.

@Hero @jim_thompson5910 @SolomonZelman @zepdrix

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

what is this parametric graphing?

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

no idea

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

lol, i don't know if they mean to parametrize y=3^x with a variable say t

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

but I'm exactly sure here lol

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

im not sure i mean *

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

To parameterize (not even sure that's a word?) the function y = f(x), let x = t so y = f(x) y = 3^x y = 3^t so the parametric form of f(x) is x = t y = 3^t taken together, they help draw this graph |dw:1454640690886:dw|

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

with parametric equations, it's very easy to graph the inverse. Simply swap the roles of x and y so now x = 3^t y = t graphing, using a calc like TI83, you'll get this graph |dw:1454640756717:dw|
