A circle is centered at the point (5, -4) and passes through the point (-3, 2). The equation of this circle is what?
center (h,k) and radius r (x-h)^2 + (y - k)^2 = r^2
point on the circle to the center is the length of the radius, distance from center to point on the circle
That makes very little sense to me.
Do you know distance formula?
The radius of a circle can be found between the center and any point on the circle. Using the distance formula will give you the radius and then you will have all the values needed to plug into the equation Dan provided
Ok, so once I get the radius, how do I figure out what H and K are?
Those are the points of the center provided in the question, (5,-4)
So once I get the radius, I plug in 5,-4 and solve?
H goes with X and K goes with Y. Since 5 is your X value, plug that in for H and since -4 is your Y value, plug that in for K.
There is no need to solve anything. You are just writing the equation of the circle
The only thing you need to solve is the distance formula for the radius; the rest is plugging in
Oh yeah, I forgot. Its late here, I'm tired. I did this just so I wouldn't forget. Thank you, I wil l try this tomorrow. Thanks again, and goodnight.
Haha no problem. Hope I helped
