How does changing the function from f(x) = −4 cos 3x to g(x) = −4 cos 3x − 6 affect the range of the function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nvm, I figured it out.

OpenStudy (danjs):

the second is f(x) - 6 , right

OpenStudy (danjs):

so the range will shift down 6 , but may not change, it depends on what the original range is for f(x)

OpenStudy (danjs):

range of -4cos(3x), the domain is any x value, cosine range is -1 to 1, so the -4 will change that to a range of -4 to 4

OpenStudy (danjs):

here a overall shift will change that , moving everything 6 down , -y direction

OpenStudy (danjs):

if the range was all real numbers to start, like an odd polynomial or something, then the shift wouldnt change the range
