Sara and three of her friends use an Internet mapping application to map the location of each of their houses. Sara’s house is located at (–2, –5), Nate’s house is located at (–2, 2), Michelle’s house is located at (4, –5), and Joshua’s house is located at (x, y). (a) On your own paper, plot the three points representing Sara’s, Nate’s, and Michelle’s houses.

OpenStudy (kamibug):

The x axis is the horizontal line where you'll count the first number in the ordered pair. If the number is negative count to the left, if it's positive, to the right. The y axis is the vertical line where you'll count the second number in the ordered pair. If the number is negative, count down, if it's positive, count up. :)

(b) The friends discover that the four houses are the vertices of a rectangle. What are the coordinates of Joshua’s house? Explain. (c) Joshua wants to know how far he would have to ride his bike on a trip from his house to Nate’s then to Sarah’s, then to Michelle’s, and finally back home. Use the appropriate mathematical formula to determine the distance in coordinate units that Joshua would have to ride. Show your work. (d) Joshua knows that 1 unit on the graph represents 3 mi. He says he can multiply the perimeter of the rectangle in units by 3 to calculate the perimeter in miles. Is Joshua correct? Explain why or why not.

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

plz help will give a medal and be a fan

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

i need to finish my home work plz

OpenStudy (study312):

do you have a graph with the ploted points?

OpenStudy (study312):

plotted*

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

no

OpenStudy (study312):

can you make one? and show it to me?

OpenStudy (study312):

or I can

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

yu can

OpenStudy (study312):

I plottted the points of their houses and went ahead and connected them

OpenStudy (study312):

Now for part b it says all 4 houses make a rectangle but we only have 3 so we will find the 4th right now

OpenStudy (study312):

so first do you see it? do you see where the last point could be?

OpenStudy (study312):

you there?

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

4???

OpenStudy (study312):

4 what?

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

2 ?

OpenStudy (study312):

2 what? what are with these numbers? what is the last house? if you don't see it I'll show you. Some people have an eye for it but it's ok if you don't

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

4y ???

OpenStudy (study312):

ok, its NOT a variable and it's NOT one whole number

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

just show me if i get it wrong :(

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

ohh ok

OpenStudy (study312):

one sec

OpenStudy (study312):

see?

OpenStudy (study312):

the 4th house is at ( 4, 2 )

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

yea ok

OpenStudy (study312):

you were close, you just didn't make it a pair

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

yeah ik something was missing and that i was doing something wrong

OpenStudy (study312):

so thats part b and c I don't really get

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

can yu but it in a sentces

OpenStudy (study312):

Joshua's house is at ( 4, 2) because on a grid that point completes it. Now usually when the questions whats it in words and someone showed you how to it you put it in your own words

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

for b or c

OpenStudy (study312):

B

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

ok

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

and for c ???

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

@StudyGurl14

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

@KamiBug

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

help plz will give medal and fan

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

what about c ??

OpenStudy (study312):

I said I don't understand C

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

oh yeah i have few more

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

well actually one more

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

@Study312

OpenStudy (study312):

idk sry

OpenStudy (litzyceron):

oh ok
