Please show all work. –3x –4y > 12 My answer~ Add 3x to both sides -4y>12+3x Divide both sides by -4 (-4) -4y>12+3x(-4) (-4)/-4=1 3/(-4)= 0.75 = 1y>12+0.75x

What my teacher said was wrong~ "Watch your signs"

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

@abbycross167 on the right side you need dividing every terms by -4 not just 3

OpenStudy (phi):

the problem is when you multiply or divide by a negative number you have to "flip" the > to < if you do that

OpenStudy (phi):

The "safe way" is to add -4y to both sides –3x –4y > 12 -3x > 4y+12 now add -12 to both sides -3x-12 > 4y now you can divide by positive 4 (which is ok) -¾ x - 3 > y you can also write that as y < -¾ x -3
