OpenStudy (graciek):

which property is shown by -3*(6+5) = -3 * 6 +-3 * 5?

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

Which one do you think it is? I'll give you four options: a) commutative property. b) associative property. c) distributive property. d) Reflexive property.

OpenStudy (graciek):

b?

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

That's incorrect. Associative property says that if we have two terms associated, it is the same as shifting the assiated term to another: \[a+(b+c)=(a+b)+c\]

OpenStudy (graciek):

oh...then would it be c?

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

That is correct.

OpenStudy (graciek):

alright thank you :)

Here's one way to think of it: Think of a warehouse that has a lot of items inside it. When you move those items to the customers, you are distributing those goods. Each customer gets what they need so think of the outer term `-3` as the product and the terms inside the parenthesis as the customers. The -3 gets multiplied, ie distributed, to each term inside |dw:1456015003928:dw|
