Balance the following equation. K+KBr

OpenStudy (chealyn98):

\[K+KBr2--->KBr\]

OpenStudy (anthonyym):

To balance an equation, the only thing you can do is change the coefficients (number before the element symbol). For example, you can change KBr2 to 2KBr2 but not K2Br. Looking at the equation K + KBr2 --> KBr, we see that Br is not balanced: there are two Br's on the left and one on the right. So we put a coefficient of 2 in front of the KBr on the right, and it becomes. K + KBr2 --> 2KBr Let's check: 2 K's on left, 2 K's on right. Good 2 Br on left, 2 Br on right. Good. There are an equal number of elements on the left and right and the equation is now balanced.
