OpenStudy (kaylee04):

Jack and Luke were wrapping presents. Jack was able to wrap presents at a constant rate of 3 presents every 15 min. Luke was able to wrap presents at a constant rate of 5 presents every 20 min. Each boy had 20 presents to wrap, and the boys started wrapping presents at the same time. . (a) Write an equation to find the rate each boy wraps presents. You may use y=kx or w=rt

OpenStudy (kaylee04):

I would first like to know what they mean by y=kx and w=rt

OpenStudy (kaylieanime):

First you want to know how much time Jack can wrap 1 present and Luke as well. How about we start with Jack. For every 3 presents Jack takes 15 minutes. Can you simplify?

OpenStudy (kaylee04):

every 5 minutes he wrapped 1

OpenStudy (kaylieanime):

What about Luke?

OpenStudy (kaylee04):

4 minutes for 1 present

OpenStudy (kaylieanime):

So if Jack's rate is 5 minutes per present and Luke's rate is 4 minutes per present, could you plug these into the functions (the y=kw or w=rt)?

OpenStudy (kaylee04):

um 1=5 for jack and 1 = 4 for luke
