Please help! Will give fan and medal. Identify the outlier in the data set. Then find the mean, median, and mode of the data set when the outlier is included and when it is not. 188 226 113 372 87 53 127 9 199 102 176 231 142 215 Thank you in advance :)

OpenStudy (latinc):

first but the data in order from smallest to largest

OpenStudy (latinc):

not but, put the data in order

OpenStudy (ray1998):

Okay. 9 53 87 113 102 127 142 176 188 199 215 226 231 372

OpenStudy (latinc):

grab a calculator, add up all the data sets and then divide the SUM by the Number of data sets

OpenStudy (latinc):

for your mean

OpenStudy (latinc):

next will move on to MODE

OpenStudy (scooby6363):

Data will be ordered into: 9, 53, 87, 102, 113, 127, 142, 176, 188, 199, 215, 226, 231, 372 If it is only asking for one outlier, I would predict 372 being the outlier. If 372 is included: Mean- 160 Median- 159 Mode- All numbers appear once unless I did not read correctly, there should not be a mode/all numbers are the mode If 372 is not included: Mean- 143.69 Median- 142 Mode - All numbers appear once unless I did not read correctly, there should not be a mode/all numbers are the mode

OpenStudy (ray1998):

So sorry for the late reply. So for the mean I got 2240. Then I divided (by 14) like you said and got 160. What next? @latinC

OpenStudy (latinc):

Mode = the most repeated number in the data set, which I didn't see any repeated numbers, so MODE = NONE

OpenStudy (ray1998):

Alrighty.

OpenStudy (latinc):

median is the always the number in the center of the data set, if the data set is even like this one then you'll gave to add the inner most number and divide by 2

OpenStudy (ray1998):

Thank you so so much for all your hard work @Scooby6363 , you're awesome :) however, I do want to learn how to do this. So I'm going to keep working with LatinC. Thank you for your time and effort though!!!! I fanned you. :)

OpenStudy (ray1998):

Okay.

OpenStudy (latinc):

(142+176)/2 should give you your median

OpenStudy (latinc):

so we have mean, median and mode right

OpenStudy (ray1998):

Is 228 the correct answer for Median?

OpenStudy (latinc):

No :( your median when averaged out should always be between the two inner numbers

OpenStudy (ray1998):

159?

OpenStudy (latinc):

it's like finding the mean of the two numbers, and YEs 159

OpenStudy (latinc):

we have mean, median, and mode right

OpenStudy (ray1998):

Okay. Also, it's also asking for the mean, median, and mode if the outlier is NOT included. What do I do then?

OpenStudy (ray1998):

Yes, we have the mean, median, and mode.

OpenStudy (latinc):

If, Opps

OpenStudy (latinc):

okay,

OpenStudy (latinc):

outlier is always going to at one end, its the data set that sick out the most from the rest. in other words the difference from an outlier will be much higher than any other data set

OpenStudy (ray1998):

Ahh, okay.

OpenStudy (latinc):

so in this set you definitely have one

OpenStudy (ray1998):

Alrighty

OpenStudy (latinc):

did you get 372

OpenStudy (ray1998):

Yes! Sorry lol I meant to type that :) thank you for all your work.
