OpenStudy (studyworking203):

What is the value of x, if the volume of the cone is 12pim^3? A.4m B.5m C.6m D.10m How would I go about doing this?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

do you know formula of volume for a cone ?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

Yes it's V=1/3pi*r^2*h

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes right where h mean the x - yes ?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

right. I think so 5 wouldn't be the h?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

So x =h

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes but you can calculi it from this right triangle what formed by radius-the height and this edge with length 5 - ok ?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

okay

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so how many will get in this way ?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

I'm a bit confused what are you asking?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

using there pythagoras theorem in this right triangle with height - radius - edge with 5m so how you can rewrite it ?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

Well for pythagorn theorem wouldn't it be a2+b2=c2 so 3^2+b2=5^2? is that kind of what you mean

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes sure right - so how many will be from there b ?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

Okay so I did 3^2+b^2=5^2 I got 9+b^2=25 I then took -9 from each side and got b2 and 16 then took sqrt root and got 4

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

b=4?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes bc 25-9 =16 and sqrt16 = 4 so this is right sure or do you wan calculi it from volume too ?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

The question wants the value of x. I'm sure 4 is fine by the choices provided above. It appears to be right. Thank you so much for your help! I love to understand math.

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

ok - so this mean that you have understood it all right easy - sure - secure - yes ?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

Well I understood it 100% with you helping guide me through it but I just want to be sure the answer is 4m. By the looks of the question do you agree it is 4m?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes sure but we can calculi it from volume too do you like it ? i will help you there too

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

We can try it and see which best fits... Let's give it a shot.

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

ok - so how many is the volume - given - ?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

Well they tell us the given is 12pim^3?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

exactly - is 12pi m^3 so how you have wrote above the formula of volume for a cone ?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

I wrote V=1/3pi*r^2*h?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

So 1/3 of 12 is also 4?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes right than using this formula you can rewrite it 12 = (pir^2*h)/3 and substitute inside this again what you know - the radius for example and calculi the h=?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

ohhh sorry not just 12 bc. the volume given is 12pi

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

I'm confused again, Do you think overall it would come to 4 again?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes bc . than you see 12pi = pir^2 *h/3 divide both sides by pi 12 = r^2 *h/3 but you know that r=3 12 = 9*h/3 12 = 3h h=12/3 h = 4

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

Wow okay. Sorry I was just doing a bit of it wrong I understand so x=4m.

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes this is right on every two ways - ok ? but hope you understand now all right - yes ?

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

I haven't got much into the chapter yet just started so that is why I was having some trouble. I do understand yes thank you. I love understanding math!!!

OpenStudy (studyworking203):

THANK YOU SO MUCH

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

np was my pleasure anytime than i m here online good luck bye bye
