OpenStudy (alexatiger):

What is an isosceles trapezoid?

Directrix (directrix):

A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of opposite sides parallel. The two non-parallel sides are called legs. If they are congruent, then the trapezoid is said to be isosceles.

OpenStudy (alexatiger):

So if I have to write a proof on Congruency, can I say that the non parallel sides are congruent? Or is it the parallel ones?

Directrix (directrix):

What is the theorem you are proving. If you are given that the trapezoid is isosceles, then you can state that the legs are congruent by definition of isosceles trapezoid.

OpenStudy (alexatiger):

I am given an "isosceles trapezoid" (I hadn't known what that term had meant), and I have to prove some of the angles in side it are congruent. I have trapezoid KLMN, with a line drawn from angle L to N and a line drawn from M to K. I have to prove angle LKM is congruent to MNL.

OpenStudy (alexatiger):

I can do that part, thank you :D I needed help understanding the vocabulary, thank you so much anyway!

Directrix (directrix):

An isosceles trapezoid has two pairs of congruent angles. They are called base angles. I assume that you are proving that base angles of an isosceles trapezoid are congruent. |dw:1461630082192:dw|
