OpenStudy (pugtato):

FAN AND MEDAL the answer is 4/7 but I got 7/4 and I don't know why it's wrong Pre-image ABCD was dilated to produce image AꞌBꞌCꞌDꞌ. What is the scale factor of the similar figures? Enter the answer in simplest form. https://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1574000_1574500/1574343/1/00cc64bab8fbd78783091799a31318c869d668e2/MS_IMC-141231-111315.jpg

OpenStudy (nubeer):

Scale Factor = new length / old length = 8/14

OpenStudy (pugtato):

So that's 0.571428571

OpenStudy (shamim):

8/2=4

OpenStudy (shamim):

14/2=7

OpenStudy (shamim):

So the result will b=?

OpenStudy (pugtato):

@shamim wait why did you divide them by two?

OpenStudy (shamim):

Need to get the result

OpenStudy (pugtato):

I already know the answer is 4/7, I just don't know why

OpenStudy (shamim):

Nd one more cause is Ur numerator n denominator is divisible by 2

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

@shamim divided by 2 to reduce the fraction 8/14 = 4/7 8 and 14 have the GCF equal to 2. To reduce a fraction fully, you divide both parts by the GCF

OpenStudy (shamim):

GCF means

OpenStudy (pugtato):

@jim_thompson5910 ohhh I divided 14 by 8 (the opposite of what @nubeer said) and got 7/4, so thank you!

OpenStudy (pugtato):

@shamim GCF means greatest common factor

OpenStudy (shamim):

Ok

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

another term for GCF is GCD GCD = greatest common divisor

OpenStudy (pugtato):

@jim_thompson5910 @shamim @nubeer thank you all so much :D

OpenStudy (shamim):

U r most welcome !!
