OpenStudy (logan13):

What is the value of x? Round your answer to the nearest tenth if necessary.

OpenStudy (logan13):

OpenStudy (avinaysingh27):

9

OpenStudy (logan13):

how did you figure that out

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@logan13 @avinaysingh27 it is not 9

OpenStudy (logan13):

i know

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@logan13 You are evidently studying the Pythagoras equation. You have a right angled triangle the longest side is opposite eth right angle and is called the hypotenuse look at my diagram below - and write the equivalent numbers from your diagram.. |dw:1461780159530:dw| you know the lenght of a and b pythgoras equation is \[a ^{2}+ b ^{2} = c ^{2}\] so work out c^2 from that equation then take the squarerrot to find x

OpenStudy (logan13):

so

OpenStudy (avinaysingh27):

I also have applies the same formula but got 9 previously which is wrong... The correct answet is sqrt(65) which is 8.06 rounding off to nearest tenth will make it 8.. hope its correct..

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@avinaysingh27 there is no need (and it is against the rules) to give complete answers There is enough info above for @logan13 to work it out himself

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@avinaysingh27 Your rounding is not correct

OpenStudy (logan13):

14

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@logan13 that is not correct Use the Pythagoras equation and show your working what is a? what is a^2 what is b? what is b^2 what is a^2 + b^2 what is c?

OpenStudy (logan13):

OpenStudy (mrnood):

OK - that's enough use my help show your work - the answer is easy if you follow the steps I suggest If you can't be bothered - nor can I

OpenStudy (logan13):

i just dont know

OpenStudy (mrnood):

|dw:1461782968323:dw| \[a ^{2}+b ^{2}=c\] look at the diagram - find the equivalent sides put the number in the equation Ther ei s no point in me giving you the answer - you will have another question that requires you to a) make some effort b) understand the Pythagoras equation
