Solve the system of equations... 3x-2y=-7 -4x+y=11 I asked this before and was told to try the elimination method, but when I checked the answer, the y-value was completely wrong (the answer is supposed to be (-3,-1)). What's the correct way to solve this?
Essentially solve for 1 variable in either equation and then plug that into the other. That's another way you could go about solving
I'd try solving for y for the 2nd equation since it's a little easier than the top one
I'm adding -4x to both sides, correct?
correct
Ok, gimme a sec...
y=15x? that can't be right
mmm hold on. youre adding 4x to both sides, so it becomes y = 11 + ___?
y=11+4x?
righto
So I'm just supposed to plug that in? That's frustrating... haha
It is but it's a way to get it in terms of only 1 variable. so then try 3x - 2(y) = -7
Then sub what you found for y into that and solve :)
-3! Thank you so much :)
careful with your signs. are you sure its -3?
Yeah, it's what the answer key said :P This is a practice packet from my state's DOE.
oh nvm i just did it lol woops
righto. so now you have x so just pop that into either equation and solve for y :D
Oh ok! hahahaha glad it's all good :)
(id use the bottom one again its easier lol)
Thank you so much for all your help!
yup no problem
