OpenStudy (abhisar):

Hi! OpenStudy doesn't works well on Edge. It's been a year since release of win 10. I think we should work on it because many people use this new browser now. I am attaching a video file which explains the error. Thanks! Video link → https://youtu.be/JCV44-PbvMQ

OpenStudy (abhisar):

I am not sure if this a compatibility issue or a bug within Microsoft edge. Whenever I post a reply the scripts are downloaded and blocked by smart screen. Also I have to leave and come back to the post if I want to post another comment.

OpenStudy (cecil_the_weasel):

Interesting that it doesn't work on Edge. I haven't tried OS on Edge yet despite the fact I have Windows10. I pretty much all but got rid of Edge in the beginning. It tries to be a browser and pdf viewer and it stinks at both in my opinion. I usually just stick to Firefox. It runs pretty smoothly for me and Chrome is not always compatible with my online school. Really strange that this issue hasn't been fixed though.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

I actually despite of the cons have started using edge on regular basis because of its simplicity. It's so sleek and fast and does most of my common work. It has nothing fancy like chrome or firefox but it's faster and lighter than both. Plus it has Cortana integration.

OpenStudy (cecil_the_weasel):

I do agree that it runs fast which is a big plus .I do like that there is not a barrage of extensions and other crud when you open it. I don't see myself using it but I can see some of the appeal. Maybe if Firefox has an epic fail of an update (likely) in the future I'll switch over.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Yeah, I at one point thought that I can never use any browser but chrome. But I tried edge and almost switched over to it completely in couple of days. Unbelievable !!

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

"Actually, Edge has a extremely slow JavaScript engine, because OpenStudy refreshes everything live, it is constantly processing new information, and exacuting more JavaScript, its also very resource intensive, so edge eats all your system resources, until you have nothing left, and still wont run most pages... Edge is a good multimedia browser, not social media. The best that could happen would be to make it so in edge you have to refresh to see anything new on the site, so edge + openstudy, unfortantly just cannot exist." ~ jaynator

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

"As for the COMET/AJAX stuff being downloaded, this is because IE likes to be an idiot and download anything it can... Imagine if a virus was sent through that channel! LOL" ~ jaynator

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

"Oh and one more thing, Edge is one of the slowest browsers out right now... LOL" ~ jaynator

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Yes, that's right. I figured it out. Actually edge was downloading script files. I turned off the smart screen filter through settings and it's fine now but it still keeps downloading script files. But this is not singular to edge. Even Mozilla does that sometimes. Edge is the least resorce extensive browser right no according to my experience. It consumes least cpu and FAR LESS RAM than chrome. App launch time is least for edge.

safari works great

OpenStudy (bunnielover948):

I have that same thing @Abhisar, but I just over looked it since I haven't been answering a lot of questions recently. It's only OpenStudy that has this problem on my computer any other website is fine.

likeabossssssss (likeabossssssss):

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@bunnielover948 I agree

alones (alones):

So this is, if you're button doesn't works?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

jaynator: @jigglypuff314 as i still cannot login apparently, please respond on abhisars post and state that "Yes, still to this day i dont know why broswers download the COMET/AJAX files, but yea, anywho... It uses less CPU and RAM because of these issues, I know this makes little sense but here, let me clear it up, this is because Edge limits its own resources, even if you raised them, more then likely, it wouldnt be long before it was at max again. Chrome does use a lot of ram, because it is trying to give you the most effeciant experience, if you want less CPU and possible RAM usage, you can force Chrome to use more GPU to render things then CPU, this should greatly improve performance, IF you have a good GPU, otherwise you may slow it down, however its very adjustible so you can adjust it to your systems needs... Personally I have never run into a issue where i needed a ton of ram... If chrome needs to and sees the systems ram is stressed, it backs off, (this is how it works well on 99% of systems, even old ones, it balances with the system). Honostly, I've been using often a cheap ASUS laptop, with 4GB of ram (at one time i was one 2GB and a single core CPU, and i still never had any system lag) and a Intel Celeron dual core @1.5Ghz (could be 1.7Ghz, but mind you i've upgraded the HardDrive to solid state) However I have never once had any issues, even with 4000 bookmarks, 15 extensions, atleast 15 tabs open at all times stretching to 100 tabs at a time with 8-12 tabs per window, and still wouldn't have a issue. TL:DR1; Chrome may be resource intensive because it doesnt have set limitations, however its limitations are how much you are using... it may use 75% of your RAM, but if you open a lot of applications, that use a bit of RAM, youll notice that 75% goes down Really fast... TL:DR2; Chrome balances with how much you need. Does not have limits except your system and what you are using, and runs extremely fast. TL:DR3; Chrome balances with the system, want to free up some CPU, change some settings in chrome://flags to use the GPU... TL:DR4; If your really worried about RAM, either A: go buy some cheap ram at large quantitys, or go buy 4-8 gigs of good ram. Final TL:DR5 if your really lazy... :P; Chrome good. Edge Bad."
