Math question.

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

Tommy has some money at home from his graduation modeled by the function h(x) = 350. He read about a bank that has savings accounts that accrue interest according to the function s(x) = (1.04)x - 1. Tommy is thinking about putting his money into the savings account to gain interest. Using complete sentences, explain to Tommy how he can combine his functions to create a new function, and explain what this new function means.

@AbdullahM

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

The only way we can combine them to get a useful function is h(x) * s(x), which is the same thing as \(\bf (h\cdot s)(x)\) That's not the same thing as \(\bf (h\circ s)(x) = h(s(x))\) Also, I believe you meant to say \(\bf s(x) = (1.04)^{x - 1}\)

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

yes its ^x-1 sorry

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

It's ok

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

so we would multiply the two?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Yes

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

could you help me explain @AbdullahM

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

This new function will allow Tommy to know how much money he has (including interest) after x time in the savings account.

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

okay thanks c: +1
