OpenStudy (dieselgirl18):

Why was Texas so important to the Confederacy?

OpenStudy (itsbribro):

It had a large area, and plentiful natural resources such as Horses, cattle, coastal ports and experienced fighters and It would have been the largest state in the Confederacy.

OpenStudy (dieselgirl18):

that didnt help me that wasnt the answer to my question which one of these are the answers *It was on the western edge of the nation. *It was the gateway to the Mississippi. *It was able to avoid the Union blockade. *It was a strategic point from which to attack the North.

OpenStudy (theyankee):

Gateway to mississippi is irrelevant. It was already a confederate state. It was a strategic point, either- in fact, it was farthest from the heart of northern territory. (newyork, maine, blah, blah, blah) And I'll just be straight forward and say that it isn't C. This leaves A, it was on the western edge of the nation. The reason this is relevant is because the confederates were thinking ahead- after the war, if they had texas, it was a CSA-controlled gateway to the further expansion westward. Apart from that area, confederate territory was mostly boxed in by blue- so, having a way to keep going westward would have been important had they survived the war. Short answer- A.

OpenStudy (theyankee):

*it wasn't a strategic point.

OpenStudy (dieselgirl18):

thank u so much yankee :) :)

OpenStudy (theyankee):

Yep. One confederate, at your service lol.
