(Question is not math related but Earth Science related. Will give medal.) Why is it important for a control variable to be in an experiment?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Hello! ^_^ It is important for there to be a controlled variable/group so that you can see the difference. For example, in one of my science projects, I decided to grow plants using different liquids, but I had 1 group of plants with water since that is the normal way people do things to see if any of the other liquids grew the plants better than just water.

OpenStudy (cas_fangirl_14):

Ok. I understand it a lot better now. Thanks! :)

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

The controlled variable also stays the same throughout the experiment.

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

No problem :)
