(05.01)Sammy is trying to determine how many triangles she can create out of a square grid that has a side of 10 inches. Use the image below to determine the area of the triangle and how many she can cut out.

OpenStudy (jimmiejones123):

OpenStudy (jimmiejones123):

can I get help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok! So, I believe we need to figure out the area of the square and the area of the triangle. If we know those, we can figure out how many triangles she can create.

OpenStudy (jimmiejones123):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So our equation for finding the area of the square is (side length)^2 And the equation for finding the area of a triangle is (1/2)(base)(height)

OpenStudy (jimmiejones123):

idk it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, no problem! The side length of the square is 10 inches so 10^2 = 100 in^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now the area of the triangle is (1/2)(10)(5), do you have a calculator to do that math?

OpenStudy (jimmiejones123):

ya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if you plug that into a calculator, the area of the triangle should be 25 in^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many times can 25 go into 100?

OpenStudy (jimmiejones123):

4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So that means she can make 4 triangles.
