OpenStudy (lollola):

Which set of numbers are more variable? How do you know? Set A) 61,61,62,65,70,71,75,81,82,90 Set B) 59,63,69,70,72,73,77,78,83 My guess: Does it mean by "more variable" like the most numbers in the set? Or the highest value of all the numbers combined? Please dont just give me the answer! I will want to know how to get the answer and so on :)

OpenStudy (p0sitr0n):

compute Var(A) and Var(B), then take the set with the greatest variance

OpenStudy (p0sitr0n):

Var(A)=101, Var(B)=55. You can compute these by the variance formula.

OpenStudy (lollola):

What is the variance formula?

OpenStudy (lollola):

ok

OpenStudy (p0sitr0n):

mu is the average

OpenStudy (lollola):

Im not quite understanding.. Were is "mu" on the formula?

OpenStudy (p0sitr0n):

so mu is \[\mu\]

OpenStudy (lollola):

oh

OpenStudy (p0sitr0n):

also, the formula I posted is a biased estimator of the population variance. if you want the good one, replace "N" by "N-1"

OpenStudy (lollola):

alright
