interesting debate topic.. just wanted to know people's thoughts Did the colonists actually have a way better chance at winning the revolutionary war?
I would like to hear your opinion on this. ☺
@wwhitlock
I believe they did
just another one of those things that history books teach u wrong
british forces in America were outnumbered by colonial forces
Since the majority of the armies were in Carribbeans, other places in the world, also, at that time, the british already had problems with French and Spanish
And the French, Spanish, and Dutch also supported the colonists with supplies and later in the war, with troops, the british knew that the colonists were going to put up a fight, so their main goal was to just take over the capital, the heart of the colonists, Boston, after that, most likely support loyalists in taking over the governments, therefore maintaining control
for the brits to win, they had to literally win everything, they had to beat the colonists down until no more resistance, all the colonists had to do was survive, and stall or advance until the king and parliament in England decided that the war was not worth it anymore
@wwhitlock what do u think about this
Actually the majority of parliament was against the war entirely
i believe they did
They did know the terrain better and had a few experienced generals
I agree that the colonists had a god chance. Britain was in conflict with other countries and we weren't necessarily their first priority. Americans also had patriotism on their side. Their attitude united the. Also war tactics were pretty terrible and eventually many US forces resorted to more effective guerilla tactics while Britain still used conventional tactics.
they british were surrounded with no allies, they had to also worry about the carribeans, and the French in europe
*good chance
hmm i think they did
I don't think that history books necessarily teach this incorrectly though. I've never had a textbook that made it sound like the US win was a long shot.
Looking back, they had 100% chance. But at the time, I wouldn't bet on it. Especially if I was an English investor
they definitely seemed like underdogs, even tho they weren't, it seems as if we all agree on this
Really Britain's downfall was lack of funds.
i agree
