I know this is not really OS Feedback but there is no other place to say this..... So, I have been homeschooled for the last 6 years and now I am saying it's time for a change.....I will most likely be going to a public high school after the summer. What do I have to look foreword to? Please only answer if you go to a brick and mortar public school Thanks, Holly😊

This was my first year doing school away from brick-and-mortar so I'm gonna answer if you don't mind. Though I have not been to a "real" high-school, I did all of middle school in brick-and-mortar. There many great things about it: - Human interaction - The ability to ask a teacher questions and get an immediate answer - You learn to deal with people - You are around sick people all of the time so you build up immunity to horrible diseases ☺ - More exercise walking from class to class - (you may have already had this but) tangible reading material/ textbooks - You get to observe how adults aren't always much more mature than children and that makes you feel better about yourself as a person - Coming home at the end of the day is actually pure relief - F-F-F-FRIENDS! I'm sure I could think of more but it's early and I'm sleepy. Hey, I know some of these points are goofy but I hope there are some good things. Have fun wherever you decide to do school next year :D

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Hahaha! Thank you so much! That is the kinda stuff I am looking forward to! But what about bullying? How was it at you middle school? Oh and congratulations on being homeschooled! It was awesome for me!😊

OpenStudy (aravindg):

The best part is human interaction. You get to make everlasting friendships and learn a lot about life. Bullying may be there depending on the region you live but even if it's there you can deal with it. We are NOT alone. We GET friends, caring teachers and a wonderful atmosphere. Welcome to Hogwarts!

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Awwww thank you so much @AravindG That means alot! It is decided....I am going to Seminole Ridge High School!

OpenStudy (cecil_the_weasel):

I personally was not bullied in middle-school. I was lucky enough to have a great group of friends that rarely fought. There were the people who tried to pick on me but not to the extent of bullying. Most stopped when they realized that it was making them look silly because I didn't care too much. My middle-school had a lot of cliques (good and bad ones) so there was some bullying but it wasn't terrible by any means. I know you've probably been told this many many times but when people pick on you it's generally because they have an insecurity that they are trying to hide and forget about. If you find yourself being bullied tell someone. If you find that people's comments hurt, it may be time to take a look at yourself and ask yourself why their opinion matters to you. Don't beat yourself up about it though. You are a cool human, they could be too if they stopped treating you badly, and there are so many other cool humans that you can surround yourself with besides them. ☺

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Okay cool! I know HS is much different than middle tho haha!

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Yw :) Enjoy you school time! It's the best part of life I'm telling you.

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

@AravindG How long have you been out of school?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

3 years have passed :'(

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

So I will be going in as a 11th grader. And that's awesome! Lol!

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

@AravindG In your HS how did new kids like transfers fit in?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Good question.

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Lol.

OpenStudy (cecil_the_weasel):

High-school's differences from middle-school really come in the actually learning material. I think you'll find that public high-school is pretty much a building filled with taller, smarter, 6-year olds. xD My high-school (actually my whole school district) treats transfers well but that might just be because I'm in a military/college town and people move in and out all the time. :P

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Usually it's found that the new students find friendship with the newbies itself in the start. Then they slowly get to know others from the school. Ultimately it is found that they are more attached to the friends they made first when they leave school.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

The important thing is no one gets left out. You will always find someone's company :)

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Oh yea. I live in the middle of nowhere haha! Okay good to know....I live like 2 miles from the school and I have lived in this town my whole life.... Do people act differently in school then in like in the after school environment such as sports and such?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

It's said school shapes your character. The only difference between being in school compound and outside is that in school you need to act according to the rules and regulations. Other than that it's all same.

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Okay. I mean like personallitys.

OpenStudy (cecil_the_weasel):

Yes and no. Many people on sports teams or in the same club are friends with people who do the same activities as them. Football players stick with football players. Thespians stick with the other theater kids. So they may act the same around their friends from the activity. However, they'll probably act a little different outside the school. Think, would you treat your teachers the same as you treat your buddies? ☺ It really depends on the person. I think most acts little different off of school grounds.

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Sorry, I might sound like a blonde idiot but I am totally clueless when it comes to how a school runs. :D

OpenStudy (aravindg):

The same. A good person is always good irrespective of surroundings. But your behavior also depends on the attachment you have to people in the respective environment. So that's a factor.

OpenStudy (cecil_the_weasel):

Hah! That's fine. I may go back to my high-school after next year and I can be a blonde idiot too (unless I dye my hair a wild color). Well, I've gotta get work done. Just don't worry too much about school. It's rarely, if ever, as bad as people act like it is.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Everyone has that phase. I was an introvert when I joined school and now I am too social it seems lol

OpenStudy (aravindg):

You will get the hang of it in a few months.

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

Ya, @heyyyyitsholly I've also thought about this, but I really don't have a choice. Great points @AravindG! :D

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

@gottennis121 What do you mean by you do not really have a choice?

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

I'm currently on tour with tennis, and need the flexibility of online school.

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Oh wow that is awesome! Best of luck!

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

I've gone to both a small private school and a huge public high school. Some words of wisdom would be, watch out who you hang out with.

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Oh wow! Thanks Rebecca!

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

Also procrastination is never an option, since there is a large amount of work/students a teacher has to deal with, late work is not accepted.

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

It's stricter that way, but you'll make friends with way more ppl.

umerlodhi (umerlodhi):

I think its good that you're going to normal school now because home school taught you nothing notice how she said foreword like wutttt even ripp gg

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I've been and go to a public high school (except for a year to get ahead in classes via online). It really is hard adjusting...after I did online school, it seemed much more manageable than going to a public one. One thing that I learned going into a new high school: first impressions matter. Be outgoing the first day you get in and learn names of your classmates quickly. Since you're a new face to a set community, people will notice you, especially if you're not a freshman. I learned that eye contact and knowing what interests people are key to making friends fast. I was shy the first week I went in, and that was quite a mistake...lol. Teachers will vary in personality, of course. However, they are commonly quite more rigorous than online teachers because you meet them for like 160 days a year. So if you be proactive and ask a lot of questions, you will be better off in getting a better grade. Overall, I think you'll get along fine. It will be hard to transition from a more free time schedule to set-out procedures to follow. However friends will be the perfect support system for getting through all that. Wish you best of luck! I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. ^_^

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Awe thank you Star! I think I am gonna do fine as well! I plan on joining JROTC as well as trying out for my schools girls basketball team!😊

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Oh and @Umberlodhi I am typing on a very old computer that is in my barn.....covered in hay and dust..... I truly feel sorry for you I you think that because I spelt one world wrong I have not learned anything while being homeschooled. What does "whtttt" spell? In my times in 3 AP English classes I have never seen that word before. So yes please enlighten me about how little I learned while being homeschooled? -Holly😊

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

"wuuuttt" as in "what", I believe. xD
