8th grade math help please? What is the mapping rule for a 180 degree rotation about the origin? A. (x, y)g(–y, x) B. (x, y)g(–y, –x) C. (x, y)g(–x, –y) D. (x, y)g(x, –y)

OpenStudy (melissa520):

@ILovePuppiesLol @ijlal @AloneS @Photon336

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

welcome to open study :)

OpenStudy (melissa520):

Thanks

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

by now you may not know this,but I am awful at math

OpenStudy (melissa520):

Oh ok

OpenStudy (photon336):

you change the sign of both the x and the y coordinates. |dw:1463513569678:dw|

OpenStudy (photon336):

lol excuse my poorly drawn figure, but the original point was (1,1) --> (-1,-1) what do you notice about it?

OpenStudy (melissa520):

One is positive other is negative

OpenStudy (melissa520):

Same numbers

OpenStudy (photon336):

what happened to x and y?

OpenStudy (photon336):

@Melissa520 if our original function was (1,1) what happened when it became (-1,-1) ?

OpenStudy (melissa520):

It went negative...

OpenStudy (melissa520):

I'm sorry I am really bad at math especially geometry.

OpenStudy (photon336):

so both became negative. so we change the sign of both the x and the y coordinates say if I had something like this (2,-2) ---> (?,?) what would it become if I rotated it 180 degrees through the origin?

OpenStudy (melissa520):

(-2,2)?

OpenStudy (melissa520):

I'm guessing that's not right?

OpenStudy (photon336):

explain to me what you did

OpenStudy (photon336):

then i'll tell you whether it's right or not

OpenStudy (photon336):

@Melissa520

OpenStudy (melissa520):

Ok

OpenStudy (melissa520):

Well I just switched them because isn't than what your supposed to do?

OpenStudy (melissa520):

If I had to choose a answer I would say it is C.

OpenStudy (photon336):

good work (2,-2) --> (-2,2)

OpenStudy (melissa520):

So the answer is C correct?

OpenStudy (melissa520):

C. (x, y)g(–x, –y)

OpenStudy (photon336):

yeah

OpenStudy (melissa520):

Ok thanks @Photon336
